Italy / Our first destination

Rome.
Leave a little room.

A few places worth your attention, and enough space between them to enjoy being there.

A little orientation

Our Rome photographs center on four places: the Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon. They form the heart of our first story. This is a short companion for readers thinking about their own trip.

We also consulted Tripadvisor's Rome attraction pages and official visitor sources. The Forum and the Vatican appear below as researched additions to consider, not as claims about where we went.

From our photographs.

The Colosseum

Our night photographs are a strong argument for seeing this building in more than one light. Before booking, distinguish standard entry from experiences with particular areas or evening access. Choose based on what you want to understand, rather than the shortest sales description.

Official visit information

The Pantheon

Go inside, then look up. The open oculus and the geometry of the dome explain why a photograph of the façade is only the beginning. This is also a functioning church; check current admission arrangements and religious-service changes.

Trevi Fountain

A famous place can still deserve your attention. Look at the sculpture before you turn around for the photograph. Access rules have changed since our 2016 visit: check the city's current arrangements for the close-up basin area.

Current Trevi arrangements

The Spanish Steps

Think of the stairs, the square and Trinità dei Monti as a single scene. Our photographs keep both versions: the architecture on its own and the two of us in front of it.

Beyond this chapter.

Two major additions deserve consideration if they fit your interests and the time you have. Neither needs to be squeezed into an already crowded day.

The Roman Forum & Palatine

Consider these alongside the Colosseum if the ancient city is central to your visit. Check the precise areas and timing covered by your chosen ticket. These are researched suggestions; they are not documented stops in our selected album.

Check the official options

The Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel

Make room for them if their collections are important to you. The Museums' official site identifies its own ticket portal and explains what the admission includes. The Museums and St Peter's Basilica are distinct visits: check each one's arrangements.
